About Me

I completed my professional doctorate in counselling psychology over a decade ago. This integrative training has given me the tools to draw from a range of theoretical models and to tailor my approach to the needs and difficulties of my clients. Since qualifying, through my work with adults, young people and children, I have developed a special interest and specialism in working with trauma. Alongside my vast clinical expertise I am currently doing a second doctorate in psychological trauma.

Professional Profile

I set up my private practice over 10 years ago. In that time, I have been privileged enough to work with diverse clients from different walks of life experiencing different challenges. Although I specialise in working with trauma, I still work with a wide range of difficulties.

My private practice is currently split between London (near Liverpool Street) and Essex. I also offer remote sessions, where you can access psychological support and intervention from the comfort of your own home. I am also a visiting lecturer on the professional doctorate in counselling psychology where I previously taught as a senior lecturer.

I believe everyone should have access to psychological support and as such I have been passionate about working in different settings. Previous roles have included head of a school-based psychology service in a secondary school and psychologist and consultant in residential settings.

Qualifications & Training

I am currently completing a doctorate in psychological trauma. This research based doctorate allows me to use my clinical experience to identify an area of research and to make an original contribution to the field of trauma whilst enhancing my knowledge and skillset.

I completed my professional doctorate in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology at the University of Surrey in 2011.  This integrative training involved becoming competent in using a range of psychological models and therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Person-Centred Psychotherapy and Mindfullness.  The teaching on the programme was strengthened through clinical placements in NHS settings.

I am committed to professional development and continually invest in building on my skills and knowledge.  I am also trained in using Eye Movement De-sensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) and using Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) and Emotion Focussed Therapy (EFT).

Experience

My training and education have given me a sound foundation to working as a psychologist, however would not have been enough on their own.  In addition to my training, I have extensive experience in been working with people in distress in a variety of settings.  As well as working privately, I have worked with people experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties in the NHS as well as charities.

Within these settings, I have worked with a range of clients from different backgrounds and with different difficulties and struggles including clients diagnosed with specific or dual mental health issues. The various settings have allowed me to work with adults as well as children and families, deepening my understanding of working with individuals of all ages across the lifespan and from different backgrounds and cultures.

I believe that my work with children and young people gives me a unique insight and understanding into how childhood experiences can shape and impact adulthood and later life, enhancing my work with adults and families.

My experience and training have equipped me with the skills to assess and draw on a range of theories and modalities when working with clients.
